Protean
Although Lore Of The Clans is an approved book, we are not going to use the example fight and flight forms from page 91, because we don't want to maintain a list of possible animals and stat bonus combinations, and we don't want to slow things down in negotiating what the mechanics should be for a given animal (like a scene with a player who bought Totemic Change or a character application where someone wants a nonstandard form).
Flight Form
No matter what the chosen animal is, a vampire in flight form gets the following mechanical adjustments:
- Strength is reduced to 1.
- Hitting them is at +2 difficulty.
- They retain their original dexterity and stamina ratings.
- Their top movement speed is 20 MPH (roughly dex 4).
- Difficulties for all hearing-based Perception rolls are reduced by 3, unless their flight form is a bird or fish, in which case they are sight-based perception rolls.
The restrictions on flight forms described on page 91 still apply as-is, with the additional caveat that anything with more mass than 15 lbs is an inappropriate choice for a flight form. So you can still pick flight forms like "bald eagle" and "barracuda", but they're going to weigh 15 pounds or less.
Fight Form
A vampire in fight form gets the following mechanical adjustments:
- If the average weight of your chosen animal exceeds 200 pounds (e.g. bear):
- Your attacks do Strength + 2 aggravated damage
- The difficulties of all Perception rolls are reduced by one.
- Movement speed is doubled.
- If the average weight of your chosen animal does not exceed 200 pounds (e.g. wolf):
- Your attacks do Strength + 1 aggravated damage
- The difficulties of all Perception rolls are reduced by two.
- Movement speed is doubled.
