Overview

  • Found In: V20 page 114
  • In Character Generation: Purchased as standard Background.
  • Available To: Vampires
  • After Character Generation: Raised through methods below.
  • Purchasable When Becoming: No, because it is given for free (You get it from your Sire).
  • Limitations: A rating of 5 is the maximum in character generation. 6 is attainable, see below.

You can enter the game with a Generation as low as 8th Generation. We do not assign population-based caps to Generation. We do not increase the CG costs for Generation.

In Character Generation

When buying Backgrounds, Generation costs 2 points per dot. When spending freebies, it costs 2 freebies per dot. When buying with Starting XP, it costs [6 XP * current level] (6 xp -> 6 xp -> 12 xp -> 18 xp -> 24 xp).

After Character Generation

Generation can be raised through Diablerie.

A Generation rating of 6 is possible if you manage to drink down a 7th Generation vampire through staff but not PRP scenes. If a PRP runner gets a 7th generation vampire approved for a plot, this NPC may be diablerized even though it was come up with by a PRP runner, but staff will adjudicate the scene.

In this case, your blood pool will increase appropriately, you will be impervious to Dominate attempts by those of lesser Generation, and you will be able to take the 6th dot of an Attribute or Skill. However, you will not be able to take the 6th dot of a particular discipline.

Diablerie to 6th Generation is a valid story arc for retirement, but you will have to retire the character, which is a permanent decision.
