In character consequences should not and can not come at the expense of the player's consent. That doesn't mean of course that if Jimmy ICly punches Tommy he can avoid being punched back by wrapping himself up in a blanket of 'I don't consent.' It means that players should not have to subject themselves to content they find distressing or personally upsetting. A game is meant to be enjoyed. If someone is unwilling to read certain content, then their boundaries need to be respected and the storyteller needs to collaborate with them towards an alternative way the scene can develop.
