The V20 core rulebook does not actually offer a mechanic to lower your Conscience and Self-Control while simultaneously requiring that these stats be worn down to 1 in order to take on a Path of Enlightenment. So, when facing a Degeneration roll, you may elect to wear down one of your Virtues instead of wearing down your Humanity.
