The Seneschal is the right hand of the kindred who enforces the Traditions.
IC Requirements
The Seneschal...
- Receives newly approved player characters to screen them before Presentation. This can also be done by Primogen, so you do not have the sole burden of being the Newbie Welcomer, but it is part of your character’s duties.
- Rewards Camarilla characters who prove their loyalty to the Camarilla or who protect the Masquerade or uphold Traditions that are in jeopardy.
- Holds Camarilla and Anarch characters accountable if they insult other characters of station/status or publicly question or disrespect the Traditions. Unlike positive Status, negative status can be given to Anarchs to represent the Camarilla holding them as subservient.
- Holds audiences with other player characters in order to gather more IC feedback which they should then deliver to the Prince.
- Acts and speak in the Prince's stead when the Prince is not in attendance or absent from the domain.
- Can gain the ear of the Prince. The Prince cannot refuse to hear a request from the Seneschal, period. Whether or not the Prince grants the request is another matter, but she cannot refuse the Seneschal the opportunity to make it.
OOC Requirements
Time Commitment: You should be able to realistically dedicate one day a week towards fulfilling your IC duties (this is generally speaking, we all have OOC vacations and holidays).
Social Commitment: You should be willing and able to RP with people outside of your usual social circle. We all have our RP habits and reasons behind them and nobody should be forced to RP with someone they don’t want to RP with in the first place. But the Seneschal gets privileges that should be made available to all Camarilla players. If “small,” “insular” or “exclusive” describes your play group, that’s fine, but you can’t be Seneschal.
Character Requirements: Your character needs to be an Ancilla or Elder and you must have been playing for 3+ months (so we know you are invested in the game). Further, to play Seneschal, you need to point to some sort of IC accomplishment that demonstrates a time when you set an IC goal regarding the Camarilla, met that goal, and received some sort of IC reward. This reward can be major or minor. We’re just looking for you to have accomplished something IC successfully.
OOC Grace: Your character’s responsibilities include holding your sectmates accountable if they insult other characters of station/status or publicly question or disrespect the Traditions. That might look like stepping on IC toes, roping in some IC muscle to enforce your IC will, making IC threats (veiled or blatant), and other antagonism. Even though such conflict is probably going to be uncommon, it needs to happen with OOC grace when it does happen. You need to be someone who is willing and capable to OOCly reach out to people proactively and preemptively to tell them, “Hey, I’m about to do XYZ to your character, it’s all IC” and touch base with them afterwards.
Status System
A Seneschal is considered Noble and, when the Prince is not in attendance at a sect gathering, a Seneschal has the title Authority. A Noble character is responsible for being a role model. A Noble character awards Acclaimed and Faithful as appropriate at will, and may grant the negative status, Vulgar, once a week.
