A capable Harpy is an arbiter of social propriety, an enforcer of Camarilla dogma, and a calculating favor broker who ensures that the local boon economy is secure. Any Kindred with the right combination of wit, maliciousness, and savoir-faire can insinuate themselves into this role, which is one neither appointed nor elected. That kindred is an NPC.

You can expect a Harpy NPC to do the following:

  • Broker and negotiate boons on behalf of members of the domain
  • Maintain the official record of boons for the domain
  • Judge and mediate conflicts over boons for the domain
  • Advise and inform the Prince about recent events
  • Administer praise or scandal to the Kindred of the domain
  • Exile the undesirable from the domain
  • Monitor and enforce status fluctuation within the Praxis

Because of the nature of the role as essentially Regina George The Vampire, we don’t open the position of Harpy to player characters. The role highlights the malicious political atmosphere of the Camarilla very well and, in so doing, can open up players to feeling like they’re being OOCly targeted or bullied unjustly. Having this significant position controlled by staff helps to mitigate the concerns that a given Harpy’s motivations are anything other than IC.

A Harpy gains the abiding status traits Prominent, Noble, and Guardian.

A Prominent Vampire determines which actions are proper social behavior and which actions are against the customs of the sect. To do so, a Prominent vampire may award Honorable and Courteous to other characters at will. Once a month, a Prominent vampire may force another character to choose between receiving the negative status Disgraced or physically leaving a scene.

A Noble character is responsible for being a role model. A Noble character awards Acclaimed and Faithful as appropriate at will, and may grant the negative status, Vulgar, once a week.

A Guardian is tasked with upholding important customs of the Camarilla: either the physical champion of Elysium or the social conscience of the Kindred court. To do so, a Guardian can enforce lawful behavior within their jurisdiction by granting Warned to those who do not respect sect law and they may do so at will. Once a month, a Guardian may also award someone the negative status Disgraced for serious infractions.
