North Beach Attack, Woman Critical
SFChronicle, Baptiste Butler: November 11, 2021
A thirty five year old woman is fighting for her life after being stabbed and assaulted with a hatchet in a violent break-in, authorities said.
Officers responded to numerous reports of gunfire at 2 in the morning at Lurmont Terrace, a residential pocket near the intersection of Lombard and Leavenworth.
The woman suffered multiple injuries from a bladed weapon and was found lying in the middle of the street, police said, as well as extensive internal trauma from having been struck by a car. She was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
A motorcyclist was reported by a witness at the Lurmont Terrace complex, fleeing from Lurmont Terrace moments after the gunfire, as well as two vehicles which arrived and then sped quickly away just as police arrived.
SFPD has thus far declined to release any details about the multiple suspects.
Police Chase Through Downtown
KRON4, Lauren Cho: November 11, 2021
A group of five suspects fled from police at speeds well over 100 mph through the streets of San Francisco, exchanging gunfire as the vehicles weaved in and out of traffic. To make matters worse, a second car of four suspects, now detained, joined chase and opened fire on the five culprits involved in a violent robbery of a North Beach home.
The incident began around 2 a.m. Wednesday at Lurmont Terrace when police received 911 calls reporting gunfire and screaming in one of the multi-unit houses along Lombard street. A team of several units was dispatched in response, intercepting a vehicle fleeing the scene.
The five suspects drove at high speeds in a black Mitsubishi Outlander, taking on one-way streets in the wrong direction in what became a successful attempt to lose their pursuers. Two of the men involved fired on the responding officers and a second, civilian vehicle that gave chase.
The second vehicle carried armed occupants, one of which who drew a shotgun when the original five suspects opened fire. The unknown individuals who had been fleeing the house opened fire on both parties.
Officers pulled back on the ground after they detained the second vehicle and its shotgun toting occupant. SFPD dispatched a helicopter to find the remaining five suspects, hoping to find their Outlander with a spotlight, but only minutes later did it appear that officers lost track of the suspects.
The incident is believed to be directly connected to the hit-and-run at Lombard and Leavenworth. The incident there landed a local woman in critical condition in the hospital.
