Against a background of his fellow officers, a man representing SFPD is speaking on the camera for KRON 4 news.

"My name is Thomas Morel, I'm the Interim chief of Police for the San Francisco Police department, and I'm giving a briefing on an incident that has occured on the 600 block of Eddy Street around 10:20. Just to give a little bit of background, the Tenderloin on a Thursday night was somewhat busy thanks to a music venue.

At 10:25 San Francisco 911 received a call of shots fired at Adaptor nightclub, and initially we had a report of 3 victims, but more victims were reported as the incident unfolded. Multiple 911 calls poured in, and fire and EMS were notified and asked to stage so we could secure the scene.

At 10:27 PM we were able to obtain some suspect descriptions. They're not very detailed based on the chaotic nature of the incident, but we are looking for a Black male wearing camouflage pants and camouflage hoodie, with a skinny build and short hair. We are also looking for a Black male wearing a black and white baseball cap and white shoes and dreadloc type hair.

At 10:30, 3 more patients were called in, one of them with very serious injuries.

At 10:31 as the crowd dispersed, we were getting coordinated for witnesses and securing the scene. Our officers responded very quickly, they were able to immediately begin life saving measures for many of these victims, such as applications of tourniquets and chest seals.

Unfortunately I must report at this moment we have four people who are deceased, and 2 patients in critical condition. We have a total of 6 people transported to one hospital, one person was transported to a different hospital, and then 1 person reported to an urgent care clinic with multiple gunshot wounds. At this point we are aware of a total of thirteen victims.

Because of the nature of the injuries, officers had to go ahead and use their police vehicles to put some of these shooting victims into police vehicles for immediate transport to the hospital. Fire and EMS did also arrive to transport a total of 4 patients.

At this point we are reviewing all of the video sources that we have, from public safety camera system downtown, SFPD body cameras, and the surviellance footage of local businesses in this area. All of those video sources will be reviewed. Our aggravated assault and homicide unit detectives are investigating at this time as well as our gang units to see if this incident was gang related.

Why the shooting broke out is not clear yet, but out of an abundance of caution we have notified the FBI's joint terrorism task force which comes out on active shooter type scenarios, especially given the high victim count. They are on the scene as well.

What we're asking for at this point is for anyone that might have information on this, might have been down here and witnessed something, or if video was taken such as on a cell phone for them to go ahead and contact us. You can call 911 or the SFPD tipline at 415 575 44 44.

That is all the information I have on this incident right now, it is very fresh, and the area will be shut down for quite a few hours. It is a large crime scene."
