News:Police Arrest 1 Adapter Suspect

Officials report that San Francisco police have arrested one man in connection with the Adapter Nightclub shooting that injured 13 people. The arrest was made by San Francisco police and the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force.

The arrest came after a local rapper's performance became the scene of chaos and bloodshed late Friday, intensifying questions about public safety and gun violence in the city by the bay.

Police said they had zeroed in on two suspects involved in a previous dispute and were working to arrest them but a third suspect in the shooting has left investigators baffled.

"The security cameras overlooking the bar shows us a third individual firing into the crowd from cover behind the bar. We are not certain of his identity or his relation to the other suspects, whose affiliations are known, and now we are working to find this third."

Interim Police Chief Thomas Morel has expressed his confidence in the investigation's ability to surface more telling details about what prompted the gunfire and that suspects could face a range of charges that include murder, attempted murder, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Officials said they believe most of the victims, whose injuries ranged from moderate to critical, were innocent bystanders. Four of the 13 victims died that night, and although 2 more victims were in critical condition, they have survived the most important moments of their ordeals and are expected to make a full recovery.

Police said the shooting appears to be an isolated incident but that the investigation is ongoing. Investigators are being aided by the FBI and off-duty detectives from various units.

Monika Schaefer was exiting Hotel Eddy nearby when she heard a barrage of gunshots.

"I only heard them from a single weapon and then everyone started running in different directions," she said. "I saw one guy in camo kind of jumping backwards to run backwards as he was shooting down the street, but I don't know who or what at. He was with one other guy. I didn't stick around to find out more, I just ran."

Schaefer, 24, said she recoiled inside the hotel and locked up her doors.

Moments later, when she believed it to be safe, she said she peered out the window and saw police officers dragging a man who had been shot in the ribs to safety and then performing first aid on him.

Morel said this event is "emblematic" of a recent increase in gun violence that SFPD is trying to work to decrease.
