M20 and V20 present two different sets of rules for grappling. They are mostly identical with the exception that V20 counts Clinching and Holding as two separate maneuvers. The pool and difficulty are the same all the way around. M20 makes the concession that applying the grapple is the same for both, and it's actually just a matter of what you decide to do if you hit. M20 also adds some additional mechanics.

We're going to stick to the V20 rules for grappling. Clinching and Holding are still two separate maneuvers.

In V20 you "inflict strength damage automatically" to the other party (whereas M20 has a roll for it which we are not using).

M20 lets you reverse the grapple by rolling 2 more successes. We do not use that rule.

In M20, only the grapple initiator can damage the opponent. But, in V20 (and thus on Modern Nights), either party can damage their opponent.
