Retainers

Retainer characters get sheets on Modern Nights.

Each NPC is tracked with a separate Retainers background.

Retainers are considered to be supernaturally aware (within the purview of their sphere: Retainers by Vampires are vampire-aware, Retainers by Mages are mage-aware). They will perform any tasks for you, at their own expense, save for actual suicide. Storyteller fiat may stand in the way of your direct orders if you are expecting the retainer to do something that is not reasonable in-character. Retainers will act with your best interest at heart and may sometimes do extra (good) things for you.

An NPC that represents a retainer can only be a retainer for one person, but that NPC may be purchased by another character as a Contact or Ally. Players who purchase that NPC as a Contact or Ally may pay to raise their stats through +request, but the owner of the retainer may deny the spend.
