We do not retcon except for when a player questions a scene based on the grounds listed below. The only scenes that are eligible for retconning are scenes which occured within the past 24 hours. They do not have to be resolved within the 24 hour window, but you must contest them within 24 hours.

==Legitimate Grounds For A Retcon==

*Mechanics were improperly applied or not applied at all
*A character did not get the defensive rolls described in the mechanics
*Failure to give a character physically observable information that would have altered their immediate decision. (e.g. 'You didn't tell me he was wearing full plate until AFTER I attacked him!')

==To Ask For A Retcon==
If one of the three above situations comes up, point it out immediately and get it resolved before the scene ends! It's better to resolve one or two pose-rounds and reroute the scene while it happens. On those rare occasions that you want a retcon post-scene, here's what you can do:

*File a +request within 24 hours of the scene.
*Summarize the scene and state why you are asking for a retcon.
*We log poses, so sending a log in is not required unless you feel that the OOC chatter or pages are important to see. That you will need to send in.
*Scene disputes are handled by staffers marked "Personnel" on +staff.

If you wish to retire your character, no action is necessary other than just no longer signing in. The game will count the character as deactivated after two weeks of inactivity. If you change your mind, just log into that character again.

If your character dies, all of the spent XP on the character's sheet goes with them. You can transfer your unspent XP across your alts at any time at your sole discretion so long as both characters in the transaction are approved at the time. So, you technically can transfer unspent XP right as your character dies. If you forget to do this and your character gets deactivated then that's kind of on you, man.
All poses written in IC gridsquares are logged unless poselogging is turned off in that specific area. When a staff member is present, OOC commentary is logged. IC phone usage is logged (texts, conversations).

==Why?==
*1) So there are fewer ST bottlenecks: On other games, individual staffers independently log information, and plots can get tied up when someone doesn't remember, isn't available, or lost their logs. Here, we just save everything.
*2) To spy on characters, not players: OOC conversations that were had between players and only players should remain explicitly private. We disable staff invisibility on IC grid squares and save poses so that the only 'candid' activity a staffer can see is IC activity.
*3) To provide OOC oversight to IC spying: Instead of allowing staffers to dark-watch scenes, they have to access pose logs through a method Batty monitors and provide a reason, e.g. "Jim is magically looking backwards in time."

==Can I Turn It Off?==
Yes. If you own a gridsquare (e.g. your home), you can type "+privacy" and turn off logging. If you are in an ICly indoor location, you can type "+privacy" and turn off logging for 3 hours. You cannot turn it off in public locations. '''Vampires:''' We do not close Vampire applications, but we do sometimes close Sabbat or Anarch apps. When the non-Camarilla population eclipses the Camarilla population, we may close Anarch and/or Sabbat applications.
'''Others:''' Ghouls, Acolytes, Revenants, mortal+ and normal human characters are not subject to population ratio caps and may be submitted at any time.

We process apps on a first come, first serve basis unless you have alts. In that case, preference is given to people who do not have characters yet. People who are mid-chargen when a population cap is reached will be approved regardless. Character applications that are initiated for closed spheres/sects will be waitlisted, meaning if you want to submit an app to a closed sphere in order to secure a place as the next character in line you may do so. Staff alts do not count against player population caps.

Whatever today actually is in reality is whatever day it is in-game. While most celebrities IRL are duplicated in the game, some real-world figures and companies have been replaced by parody characters. These are largely political office holders and law enforcement figures. The most notable among them follow:

*The U.S. President in Modern Nights is Joe Brighton.
*The Governor of California is Gavril Neumann.
*The Mayor of San Francisco is Paris Reid.
*Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi is replaced with Annie Piloso.
*Representative Maxine Waters is replaced with Nancy Walker.
*Mike Druckerberg (FaceBook), Jim Hooke (Apple), and Jack Scorse (Twitter).
*Previous presidents (Obama, Bush, Clinton etc.) remain as-is: we don't want you to learn an entire AU history for the real-world. We just want to be free to do a parody-reproduction of current events in our storylines.

We do not employ any gatekeeping or pre-requisites for dots of Generation.

The highest available Generation in character generation is 5 dots (which would make you 8th generation).

We also let people take the various Thin Blood flaws.

We don't let people play Dhampirs, but you can play 14th, 15th generation if you hate yourself like that.

If you manage to diablerize your way down, the lowest you can go is 7th Generation. When you get 7th Generation, you get the benefits from the "Dominate only works on lesser generations" dynamic and you get the hellacious blood pool, and the heightened attribute caps (you can +pump your stats higher). However, you cannot buy 6th-level discipline powers.

If you somehow get an off-the-wall chance to diablerize something ancient, you can get your character down to 5th or 6th generation, but in this case, your character will be turned into an NPC. You can always just pass up the generation change to keep your character and have the triumph of having sucked down an ancient monster like darjeeling.

==How To Gain XP==
Pose! Every 15 minutes, players who have written at least one pose that is 140 characters long or more get pose XP, up to a maximum daily amount. 75% of the daily pose XP is awarded for 2 hours of RP and the remaining 25% is awarded afterward. Your daily pose XP gains diminish over time according to your total XP until 300 XP, at which point pose XP is no longer accumulated.

Get +Rec'ed. Players can write +recs as often as they please. Each player's +rec list is a weekly a raffle for +1 XP. One randomly chosen character in that +rec list gets that week's +1 XP.

Get WRECKT. Characters that take 5+ damage (post soak) earn 0.25 XP. Characters that undergo significant negative consequences in a staff-run scene earn 1 XP if it's due to a one-off, and 3-5 XP at ST discretion if it's due to plotting over a period of time. This includes things such as loss of vampiric status, loss of ghouls/resources, and being betrayed.

Change it up. If you +rec someone new, or someone who you haven't +recced in over 2 months, then you both get +0.5 XP.

Take risks. Did you do something that almost got you killed? Are you a single bluff-call away from a scandal? Send in a +request to staff explaining the stakes and what you did, and we will give you +1 XP. People with the Daredevil merit do not benefit from this.

==How To Spend XP==
XP expenditures are facilitated through the XP room on the game. Attributes, Abilities, Virtues, in-clan Disciplines, and Willpower are available through flat purchase no questions asked. Other traits (out-of-clan Disciplines, blood magic paths, rituals) are obtained through the +teach command. Backgrounds are earned through role play and request.

It's okay for players and staff to specifically use IC means to spy on other players (obfuscate, scrying, surveillance equipment, time-scrying, etc). but it is explicitly NOT okay for staffers to spy on players through darkwatching. Darkwatching is when a staffer uses "@set me=dark" and then sits in on scenes without the knowledge of the players in the scene. There is no IC mechanism to detect or defend against it and it is rife with potential to be discriminatory. As such, darkwatching has been pre-emptively disabled on Modern Nights.

We log poses here (see our poselogging policy and the +privacy command described therein), but the pose logs are only to be accessed as a response to player requests (such as Time Sight), not just to be arbitrarily read. Darkwatching is like arbitrarily reading the pose logs. It is not allowed.

Darkwatching will be activated on a temporary basis under the following exceptions:

*1) To provide a mechanism for a player request for a supernatural effect that is not coded into the game and has to be done in real time rather than after the fact.
*2) To observe a player who has been recently accused by another user of abusive, cheating, or harrassing behavior.

Rebekah: Created page with "Players are welcome to run PRPs so long as they follow all of the PRP rules (all of the newsfiles under the PRP section, which is reflected in the content here in this page)...."

Players are welcome to run PRPs so long as they follow all of the PRP rules (all of the newsfiles under the PRP section, which is reflected in the content here in this page).

=Who Can Run PRPs?=
Anybody can run PRPs as long as they have one approved, non-deactivated character and are thus a part of the game.

=How Do I Run PRPs?=
First, please make a PRP account. This is just a matter of logging in as a new screen name with "-PRP" on the end so that staff knows you're running a PRP! These accounts also (are due to) get special permissions on equipment, notes, and NPC code to help them run PRPs in an organized fashion.

*1) Create a new character named "<whatever>-PRP"
*2) Register this as a PRP account with "+register <your email>, using the same information that you used with your character(s).
*3) Send in a +request asking to have your ST account set up.

Next, identify if you need to get your PRP pre-approved by staff or not. Ask yourself the following questions:

*1) Do you want to use NPCs who are supernatural, like ghouls or mages or vampires?
*2) Do you want to use NPCs who hold political office, like the mayor or police chief?
*3) Is this a plot that involves going to other realms, like the Umbra or the Shadowlands?
*4) Do you want ot use NPCs who are really heavy hitters in a specific influence sphere, like the top crime boss?
*5) Do you want to involve existing staff-run NPCs, like the Prince?
*6) Do you want to use this plot in order to buy off a Flaw, or fulfill your own character's IC goals?
*7) Freak accidents are one thing, but does this plot have anything in it that has the likely potential to kill someone's character?

If you answered "no" to all of the above questions, you don't need the plot to get pre-approved. You can just run it, in any manner that you see fit. We do recommend that you send in a +request to tell us your plot premise or otherwise reach out to us. After all, if another player catches wind of your PRP and wants to participate, we will want to know who to refer that person to.

If you answered "yes" to one or more of the above questions, you need to get the plot pre-approved. To do so, share your plot idea with staff by sending in a +request. If you want to first talk to us in a conversation before sending it in you are perfectly welcome to do so!

When it comes to sharing your plot idea, there is no content requirement, pre-requisite or red tape. You can tell us your idea no matter how fleshed out it is or isn't. If your idea is very vague we might not be able to approve it until you've worked on it a little more, but we're happy to have a conversation with you in order to work it out to that end!

=Where can my plots take place?=
PRPs can take place anywhere, but you strictly need direction and input from staff if you want to take characters into the Umbra, the Shadowlands, or some other plane of existence. You can make events occur at locations on the grid that do not ICly belong to you if you can access these locations. You may use the Anywhere rooms but we strongly prefer that you put these plots on the grid so other people can join.

=What NPCs Can I Use?=
You can make whatever NPCs your plot needs once it's approved. We trust you to make NPCs in good faith according to the original plot idea. If you feel the need to add a specific NPC that wasn't originally part of the plot then you may request doing so from staff and introduce that NPC after their inclusion is approved. If you deviate from the original plot idea and add in special NPCs that have nothing to do with the original plot, then we will check if you asked first and remove those NPCs if you did not (so for instance if someone adds a random Nephandus into a plot that had not mentioned them, we'd remove it).

==Can My Plots Use…==
*'''Changelings?''' Not at this time.
*'''Demons?''' Demons are totally allowable NPCs but you will be required to use the material in the Vampire and Mage 20th Anniversary books, not Demon: the Fallen.
*'''Hunters?''' DEUS FUKKEN VULT, MY DUDES. Please note, however, if you want supernaturally able hunters, then use Sorcerer: Revised Numina. Do not use the traits from Hunter The Reckoning.
**'''The Inquisition/Society Of Leopold?''' I SAID DEUS VULT (yes, use them).
**'''S.A.D./The Gubbermints:''' Yes, use them.
**'''The Arcanum:''' Yes, use them.
*'''Kindred Of The East?''' Not at this time.
*M'''ages?''' Yes. Technocrats, Nephandi, and Marauders are all valid NPC antagonist types available for you to use in your PRPs if you get these NPCs approved first.
*'''Mummies:''' No.
*'''Sorcerer Societies?''' Yes! Use them!
*'''Spiwwits?''' Yes! Use them.
*'''Vampires?''' You can make Anarch, Camarilla, Indies and Sabbat NPCs! You can also make Infernalists, Archons, Templars, and Inquisitors. You cannot use The True Black Hand.
*'''Werewolves?''' Garou, yes. Ratkin and Rokea, yes. The other Changing Breeds, no.
*'''Wraiths?''' Yes, use them using the rules provided in V20 & M20.
*'''Existing, Staff NPCs?''' Yes, but in this case, you need to get permission on a per-scene basis, not a per-plot basis. Cuz we're using them too.

==How do I check that I'm not stepping on anybody's toes?==
Submit your plot (or plot idea) to staff! Staff will triage what's going on and if someone is doing something that runs into your plot then we'll let you know and figure out what we can do so y'all both can run something fun. If you have observed that staff is running a certain type of antagonist or plot arc, you still are welcome to submit an idea that is similar! Who knows, they might only look similar on the surface. Just because staff is using hunters or the technocracy as an antagonist, for example, doesn't mean that you can't also do that.

If you are wondering about running into people whose characters should be embedded into a certain industry or world, you can type +inf/list to see all the influence categories and then type '''"+inf/list <name of influence>"''' to check if there are any players considered to have dominated that influence track. If you can see someone on the list when you check that influence type, then now you know who you can loop in! You have no obligation to sync up with these people but you are encouraged to.

=XP Rewards For STing=
Players who run scenes or plots, regardless of if it's from an PRP bit, can get XP and/or Karma (you pick which one) for each scene they run to a maximum of 5 XP and/or Karma per month. This is a limit of 5 points of both types combined. You could not earn 5 karma and 5 XP, but you could earn 3 karma and 2 XP.

If your character is not involved in the plot, you can redeem either XP or Karma. If your character is involved in the plot, you can get Karma, but not XP. We consider your character "involved" if they do more than act as a source of advice, information, or useful equipment. So, giving someone a sword to go kill the dragon or telling the party about the dragon's powers and weaknesses is not 'involved,' but joining the party to go kill the dragon with them is 'involved'.

Receive this reward by sending in a +request to staff. Identify and describe what you ran, including IRL dates, and pick your reward (XP or Karma).

=Can I Reward Characters?=
Yes! You can nominate characters for fancy magic reward items or points of Allies, Retainer, and so on. To do so, simply +request things to make what you did a part of the story world (e.g., "Jimmy chatted this bartender up and I think he should count towards making a new Contact for him!").

Your request, on review, may be denied or altered depending on what it is. Staff can and will step in at their discretion to retcon or modify scenes that are inappropriate, such as ones that break the barrier between IC and OOC or are wildly unbelievable (like, burning down a whole building and nobody noticing).

=Can I Kill Characters in my PRPs?=
You can design plots that have the potential to kill characters in terms of the IC risks. However, if you choose to do this, then you do need to go through staff. Staff need to be confident these risks are appropriate, and staff also needs to make sure that everything is accounted for. As a PRP runner, you don't have access to the same level of information on the game and its characters which could change the IC situation or save an IC life.

=Can I "Punish" Characters in my PRPs?=
Yes. There is a difference between providing consequences for characters versus merely antagonizing players which staff will be vigilant about monitoring. However, if you think it is appropriate, you can take the gloves off with the characters in your story. Just remember, if your plot comes with the potential to kill, you must go through staff.

=Can I Award XP?=
Yes! You can do so through +request. You can nominate a player for point of XP for the following acts:

*Learning Curve: Characters who have learned something pivotal to either the plot or their own personal character development can earn a point to reflect that knowledge. To earn that point, the player should explain why that knowledge changed her character’s world. Acquiring a new dot in a stat does not count as "learning" in this context.
*Focus (for Mages): Belief and practice are important to a mage. A player who gets deep into her character’s paradigm, plays up that mage’s beliefs, details her practices, and uses her instruments in cleverly appropriate ways, may get a point for emphasizing the mage’s approach to the Arts and Sciences.
*Status (for Vampires): Each sect maintains their own values and social strata. A player whose character should earn Fleeting Status should also earn 0.25 XP per acquired Status (this is accomplished through staff using a +status/grant command).
*Heroism: A character who faces incredible odds to perform a memorable act of sacrifice or risk ought to be rewarded for stepping up courageously and doing what needed to be done. This can be against social, mental, or physical risks, awarding 1 point.
(IC) Drama: You may decide to give out extra points for especially deep roleplaying, dramatic self-sacrifice, or other memorable moments.
*Success: If a character has had a goal that has lasted through multiple scenes and accomplishes that goal Everyone involved in the adventure gets an extra point at the end of that story, assuming that they met their major goals and gained a sort of victory.
*Danger: If the characters faced major hazards (harrowing temptations, fights in which survival was seriously in doubt, etc.) they may gain an extra point. Note that this needs to be an above and beyond sort of situation. Any old instance of conflict is not going to fulfill this story point.
*Thinking Outside The Box: If a character was particularly clever, then she ought to be rewarded for using her head! This needs to be a situation where things could have gone seriously sideways had that character not shown that spark of wit.

You may reward For every applicable aspect in the list above. You may reward the same character for different things or the same thing multiple times. Simply send in a +request pointing out where/how this was earned. A given character can earn a maximum of 5 XP per month from all combined ST rewards and PRP-runner recommendations in this manner.

Players (non-staff) running a PRP are empowered to make NPC humans and ghouls willy-nilly. If a player wants a mage or vampire NPC or a ghoul that has more than just 1 Potence, they may request it of staff. Staff will permit that player to make a character via chargen after asking about this character and their role in your PRP. When that character intended to be an NPC is submitted, then staff can convert that PC to an NPC.

Keep in mind the following restrictions for player-created NPCs:

*If you can't make it in CG, you can't make the NPC.
*NPCs may not have a title/rank that supercedes Prince/Archbishop/Baron.
*Canon characters from the books require Batty's approval.
*Stats unavailable in chargen are simply unavailable period.
*NPCs require staff sign-off if they are legal/political leaders.

This game is a role-playing mush with the expectation that you are making a well-rounded character with realistic motivations behind their actions. Player killing is allowed if it is in-character, but arbitrary player killing will be met with corrective action.

If a heat-of-the-moment situation turns into combat, you MUST contact staff and wait for staff, even if you are fluent with game mechanics. That staffer can choose to run the combat, or give players permission to adjucate themselves. This is because we are a yes-game with a culture of trusting players. However, the instant that any player wants staff to be involved again, staff must be involved.

In the case of planned antagonism (hired killings, ambushes, planting traps/bombs, etc.) you MUST go through staff, end of story, there is no "a staffer might decide you two are aright to duke it out live". Put in a +request. Let staff know. Do NOT move forward until you have a response from staff acknowledging that they read the +request. If they leave instructions, follow them. If they require you to perform a scene to accomplish the task, you must perform that scene.

PRP runners do not have access to staff notes and thus cannot step in for staff when staff is required.

We do not delete characters. We do remove player accounts from +census after 2 weeks of inactivity. Characters who are removed from census are marked as such on their +finger, which discloses everyone's approval status. To become active again, get back on the grid and pose! The pose logger will eventually notice (at midnight) that you're back and wipe your inactive status. No need to contact or wait for staff.

After 1 month without RPing, then we figure you probably aren't coming back and so we rename your bit. It'll be your original name with a series of numbers afterward (like Jimbo_1234). This is so that another player can assume that character name next.

If you return after a month and nobody has taken the name, just rename yourself. If you were ever approved, getting back in is a matter of just going back on grid and RPing. If someone has taken your old name and is still active, you will want to rename yourself something else, such as your character's last name or nickname.

To do so, type '''"@name me = <new name>"'''.

==Freezing, Retiring, and Vacation==
You may Retire a character (this means a permanent decision to no longer play that character).
You may Freeze a character (this means marking a character as inactive due to the player not wanting to play the character).
You may also go on Vacation (this means marking a character as inactive due to the player being unavailable).

When you are on Vacation or your character is Frozen, that character can be resumed at any time for any reason. Characters who are Retired do not get deleted, but they are not recoverable.

To freeze or retire a character, send in a +request.
To mark yourself on vacation, send in a request or type '''"+vacation"'''.

'''Exceptions To Unfreezing Characters:''' Players who are angry or upset when they elect to freeze or retire their characters may not recover said characters if they +freeze in an emotional reaction. Players who request a +freeze/+retirement within 24 hours of staff enforcing a policy or IC consequences are likewise not eligible to recover their characters.

==Moving Things Along IC==
If there is an RP bottleneck that requires your character's participation but you are inactive without warning, staff will @mail you to tell you that you have a certain time frame to participate before your character gets puppeted. This is typically only going to be the case if you go for an IC position of power or have become a key person in a specific plot.

Your RP habits will be taken into consideration (e.g., if you regularly only sign in on weekends, we extend your notice through the weekend).

After the notice period, staff will puppet your character if you have not yet taken the requested IC action(s) to remove the RP bottleneck. We will act in your character's best interest, but we will not make your character an exception to any IC consequences they incurred up to this point. You can resume play at any time.

If we have to repeatedly puppet your character we might speak with you to check in, and we may need to orchestrate IC changes, but we will not impose IC consequences for OOC circumstances.

Rebekah: Created page with "You can make a character who you intend on getting Embraced, or you can make a character who isn't a vampire and then later sign up for an embrace through the course of play...."

You can make a character who you intend on getting Embraced, or you can make a character who isn't a vampire and then later sign up for an embrace through the course of play. In these cases, here is how embraces work.

=Requirements=
ICly speaking, all that is necessary, technically, is the Embrace, be that from A PC or NPC. Don't forget to get dat sweet permission from the Pr0nce.

However, there's some heads-up ground to cover here.

Being a fledgling is actually not easy. You gotta be willing to play through an experience that has the potential to get complicated quickly or compromise your character's free will in some way. If you're thinking, "I don't know Vampire very well, so I should play a brand new vampire in order to get acclimated," you can try it, but it's vastly easier to just play a Neonate who has gotten past their first few years.

This is because of several social factors within Vampire. Your Sire will be held accountable for your actions (this is especially true for the Camarilla). This opens you up to your sire potentially wanting to control you in some fashion. It also opens up th possibility for other characters to prey on the potential liability that you pose due to how your sire is held accountable for whatever you do.

For example, they may try to manipulate your character into a screwup so they can take your sire down (and you will go down with them). In the Sabbat, you do not have protection under the law and can be very mistreated until you earn your Creation Rites (a rite of passage).

This is not to say that just because you're embraced you're going to therefore be immediately subjugated to poor treatment IC. It does mean, however, that being treated poorly IC can very well happen due to the nature of life as a fledgling. Staff will step in on your behalf on a case by case basis if the IC events are inappropriate.

If you're not willing to sign up for that, that's totally legitimate, but that also means you shouldn't aspire to get embraced.

=Process=
A scene gets ran for your Embrace, and at the end of that scene, you get the following things:

*Generation dots equal to your Sire's Generation -1
*1 level in any one Discipline that is in-clan for your new Clan
*As much blood as your Sire is willing to feed you during the scene, up to your Generational Maximum.

Then, we take you OOC. If a +job regarding your Embrace doesn't already exist at this time (for whatever reason), then a +job will be made at this time. On that +job, you'll be able to designate whatever XP spends that you want to spend with your currently saved up XP. This saved up XP can be spent on specific Backgrounds, Merits, and Flaws (below).

Once you have designated your purchases, you can go back IC. We want you to stay OOC until the purchases are set in order to make sure that there are no continuity errors ICly.

The cost of buying a Background is 3 x current rating, per level.

The cost of a Merit is 3 x Rating, flat-rate. This means that a 3 point Merit would cost 9 XP. A 5 point merit would cost 15 XP.

Flaws can also be acquired to give you XP. This XP can be kept outright, or used to offset the costs of Merits. You can only purchase up to 7 total points of flaws, including the flaws you brought in with you. For example, if you took 3 points of flaws originally during character generation, then you can acquire 4 more points of flaws upon embrace. If you already took 7 points of flaws, you cannot acquire more flaws.

Please note that the merits and flaws available for immediate purchase are specifically those which were not available to you during character generation due to applying as a plane-Jane human. Merits and Flaws that were available to you during character generation (like "Impatient" or "Enemy") are not available. A detailed selection of what is available to you is found below.

==Backgrounds Available For Immediate Purchase==
When Becoming something supernatural, a player may buy dots of certain Backgrounds immediately, to represent the circumstances of the Embrace. With that XP, you can buy dots of the following Backgrounds:

*Double Unlife: If IC circumstances align (rival sires, some sort of weird interpersonal IC relationships, etc), you can buy Double Unlife up to 3 points. It costs 3 points per level. Thus:

You will need a significant, staff approved event, Awakening your character's Avatar. Please send in a +request voicing this desire.
A scene (or set of scenes) gets ran for your Awakening, and at the end of that scene, you get the following things:

*An Arete rating of 1
*A rating of 1 in any of the 9 Spheres.
You do not Awaken into a specific Craft (for example, you do not Awaken into being Verbena). You need to get initiated into a craft later.
In V20, you are technically a ghoul from the very first drop of blood (see page 37 of Ghouls & Revenants). That doesn't mean you get Disciplines immediately, but you are subject to Ghoul mechanics (you cease to age as long as you retain Vitae, you are capable of Frenzy, carrying a Vitae pool, etc). Theoretically your ghoul status can wear off, leaving the blood bond behind, which is described on page 36 of Ghouls & Revenants.

However, it is incredibly unlikely that this will wear off due to the following factors:

*Withdrawal: A month after your last drink of blood you experience Withdrawal. See page 43 onward of V20's G&R for details.
*Your Domitor: Your Domitor is going to inevitably feed you drinks 2 and 3.
*The Masquerade: Once you are exposed to the Vampiric world, there are no half-measures. One way or another, your Domitor will face pressure to give you all 3 drinks.
So while yes, it is technically possible to be blood bonded without being a ghoul, this is by first becoming a ghoul and then being deprived of blood for a month (which triggers Withdrawal). It's possible. It's not likely.

Please note that once Sorcerers and Psychics are ghouled, their powers are removed and exchanged permanently for Disciplines. If you do happen to have your ghouldom "wear off" and are playing a Sorcerer or Psychic, their original powers will not be restored.(edited)

=Requirements=

ICly speaking, all that is necessary, technically, is a PC willing to ghoul you. Don't forget to get dat sweet sign-off from the Court.

However, there's some heads-up ground to cover here.

==Ghoulings And Consent==

Ghouling a character requires OOC consent from the player portraying the ghoul-to-be. You're asking this person to make an extremely dramatic and even invasive change to their character. They deserve 100% OOC transparency.

If you're in a position where you feel like ghouling a person is a way to keep them safe, the market offers several lovely alternatives you should consider together. You can reach out to staff for more according to your IC situation. If the situation has come to this due to the prospective ghoul having drummed up a bunch of IC consequences, they may just have to lie in the bed they made for themselves, but there's always …

*The Mind Wipe (Dominate, blackout drunk, etc).
*The Cover-Story (Those guys are just weirdo cultists/LARPers/DND nerds).
*Proselytizing Keeping Your Mouth Shut as the one and only true Lord And Savior.
*And Many More!

Please note, however, that just because ghouling is consent-based, punitive blood bonding of other vampires or existing ghouls is a valid form of ICC within the Camarilla justice system (See "Draught of blood", page 388 MET). If, for whatever reason, you are facing a 'Draught Of Blood' as a legal punishment and you aren't willing to RP that, then we can and will come up with something else, but the alternative IC punishment is still going to be an actual IC punishment.

Also please note, we don't want to deal with ghouling mages. Please don't go there. It ends in sadness for everybody, do not bring sadness to everybody.

==Being A Ghoul Ain't Easy==

Being a ghoul is not straightforward and sometimes is not easy. You gotta be willing to play through an experience that has the potential to get complicated quickly or compromise your character's free will in some way.

This is because of several factors. For one, your character is going to essentially be hooked on kooky spooky heroin/crack since the blood is powerfully addictive. It takes a Willpower score of 5 or greater to have a chance to resist that third drink. Your free will gets a little compromised, here.

Second, you're subservient to your domitor, you're seen as property. This opens you up to your sire potentially wanting to control you in some fashion. It also opens up the possibility for other characters to boss you around.

This is not to say that just because you're embraced you're going to therefore be immediately subjugated to poor treatment IC. It does mean, however, that being treated poorly IC can very well happen due to the nature of life as a ghoul. Staff will step in on your behalf on a case by case basis if the IC events are inappropriate.

If you're not willing to sign up for that, that's totally legitimate, but that also means you shouldn't aspire to get ghouled.

=Process=

Someone loads you up with blood.

==Drink One==
*You get a Vitae pool, which you can spend to heal damage, from day 1.
*You acquire a 1-step Blood Bond and are considered a ghoul in the most technical sense.
*If you have psychic powers or hedge magic, all of your Numina rolls are at +1 difficulty so long as you carry that Vitae

==Drink Two==
*Your Blood Bond increases to a 2-step bond.
*If you have psychic powers or hedge magic, your powers become even more difficult to use (+2 difficulty to rolls) so long as you carry the 2-step bond, Vitae or no Vitae.

==Drink Three==
*Your template gets switched to "<Domitor's Clan> Vassal."
*You acquire 1 dot of Potence and 1 dot in any other discipline from your domitor.
*You acquire a Domitor rating determined by your sire's Generation.
*Your Blood Bond is now a 3-step bond.
*You lose your psychic powers or numina permanently. You will be compensated (see 'Power Loss And Compensation' below).
*At the time of the third drink, we take you OOC. If a +job regarding your Ghouling doesn't already exist at this time (it very well should), then a +job will be made. On that +job, you'll be able to designate whatever XP spends that you want to spend with your currently saved up XP (plus compensation XP, below).

==Backgrounds Available For Immediate Purchase==

When Becoming something supernatural, a player may buy dots of certain Backgrounds immediately, to represent the circumstances of the Ghouling. At this time, there are no Backgrounds that are relevant. Domitor exists, but you will be given the Domitor background for free, as determined by your Regnant's Generation score.

==Merits And Flaws Available For Immediate Purchase==
===Mental Merits And Flaws===
Light Sensitive (-2, -4 or -6 Pt. Flaw)
Your ghoul has discovered, much to her chagrin, that she is growing more sensitive to bright light thanks to the transformative powers of the vampiric blood she ingests. During daylight hours, she might require strong, prescription sunglasses, and bright flashes such as a camera flash or lightning may require a Frenzy check. Among ghouls of certain Clans and bloodlines, like the Followers of Set, this Flaw can worsen over long periods of time at the Storytellers discretion. The point value for the Light Sensitive Flaw reflects an increasing sensitivity to artificial and natural light. A 2-point Flaw means your ghoul retreats from harsh, bright sunlight harsh and will react more quickly than most mortals. At 4 points, your ghoul is incapable of functioning normally in bright sunlight, and may develop painful skin rashes and/or sunburn after exposure. At 6 points, the ghoul finds any bright light nearly paralyzing, and will go to whatever lengths required to avoid such bright conditions. Bad sunburn will result from only a minute or two in full sunlight, and will become bashing damage at a rate of one point of damage per fifteen minutes worth of exposure. A ghoul with this level of the Flaw will therefore receive four points of bashing damage per hour of contact with full sunlight or its equivalent. Such damage may be healed normally, as per V20 on pp. 282-286.

==Supernatural Merits And Flaws==
==Merits==
===Blood Flaw Immunity (5 Pt Supernatural Merit)===
You have discovered that you are resistant to the Clan or bloodline flaws present in the blood you drink. Your domitor might be a lower Generation Nosferatu, who lives in the sewers because her appearance is so hideous, and yet your appearance will not change. Should members of the Tremere or Tzimisce Clans learn of your Blood Flaw Immunity, you may be sought after for further study. After all, if a ghouls biology is such that you do not suffer as much as your domitor, surely theres a "cure" for the flaws present in every Clans or bloodlines blood. This Merit no longer applies if your ghoul is Embraced.

===Clear-Sighted (4 Pt Supernatural Merit)===
Your ghoul is not easily fooled by illusions and tricks of the light. Whether you were born lucky, have supernatural assistance, or proper training to brush aside such influences, your character has a knack for overcoming the phantasms, shadows, and mirages others create through the use of thaumaturgical rituals and Disciplines. This Merit is only applicable for visible tricks of deceit caused by the use of Disciplines. When faced with a supernatural illusion caused by the use of Disciplines such as Obfuscate and Chimestry, your ghoul may make a Perception + Alertness roll (difficulty equal to your opponents powers level +3). If successful, your character sees right through the effect. If you fail, you might suspect the illusion is a trick, but you cannot prove your suspicious are correct.

===Pale Aura (2 Pt Supernatural Merit)===
Due to some quirk of fate or your reaction to the Blood, your aura is naturally pale. Any color your characters aura takes has a pale cast to it, as if you were a vampire and not a ghoul. Vampires reading your aura with the use of the Auspex Discipline may assume you are a vampire unless they gain five or more successes on an Aura Perception roll, or have strong reason to suspect otherwise. This Merit can be of great use if you wish to impersonate a vampire for a time, but can also cause a dangerous misunderstanding or lead to your capture for further scrutiny.

==Flaws==
===Light Sensitive (-2, -4 or -6 Pt Supernatural Flaw)===

==Social Merits And Flaws==
===Groomed for Embrace (5 Pt Social Merit)===
Your character has been deemed worthy of the Embrace, and is being prepared for the eventuality through careful, directed training by your future sire. While this Merit does not guarantee when you will be Embraced, your character is aware that you will become a vampire, and you know the identity of your future sire. The benefits of being Groomed for Embrace are related to your current role as a ghoul, and your future position as a vampire within a specific Clan or bloodline.

=Aftermath=
Once your Ghouling +job has been processed (your Clan vassalage, two Discipline dots, Vitae pool, Domitor rating, and your XP spends get set), you can return to normal IC play. You may buy Disciplines like any other ghoul.

=Power Loss And Compensation=
Psychics and Sorcerers permanently lose their Numina on the 3rd drink (which is also when they get their Disicplines). On Modern Nights, if you're gonna play something, you're gonna play purely that thing. Not a Sorcerer-Psychic, not a Sorcerer-Ghoul, et cetera.

While some Numina do make some thematic sense to keep (e.g. some psychic Numina would compliment Auspex very well), we do not have any intention of making exceptions because this complicates the process and can make people feel left out or singled out. Mortal+ characters lose their Numina across the board. Damnation is cruel.

We play out the power loss to the 3rd drink to give the Mortal+ at least some kind of opportunity to discover that their powers are being destroyed as an OOC courtesy.

An ex-Sorcerer or ex-Psychic retains their knowledge of how things are done (they could, for instance, theoretically act as a mentor to someone developing their Paths) but they can't use their powers anymore.

==What You Get Compensated For==
*Original 5 dots of Numina: These are replaced with 1 Potence + 1 other Clan Discipline (the ghoul chargen package).
*Mortal+ Only Background Dots:
**Mana: Refunded at 3 XP per Chargen/Freebie dot spent.
**Guide: Staff decision pending. Possible outcomes include either that ghouls may keep Guide, trade it out for Spirit Mentor, or get refunded. All characters will be subject to the same decision, it just has not been made yet.
**Cholé: Staff decision pending. Possible outcomes include either that ghouls may keep Cholé, trade it out for Medium, or get refunded. All characters will be subject to the same decision, it just has not been made yet.
*Freebie Points Spent On Numina: These will be refunded with 10 XP per dot of Numina acquired through Freebies.
*XP Spent On Numina: XP you specifically spent on Numina gets refunded. This is strictly and only Numina.

==The Compensation Process==
You will be given XP determined by what incompatible stats you are losing and how you got them.

The XP that you get as part of the transformation (from now-invalid spends) can be used on the Ghouling job, but only for merits that specifically were not available to you during character generation. You cannot buy more dots of Disciplines with this compensation XP at the time of ghouling. You can save it up for later, but you cannot immediately spend it on Disciplines.

You can make a character who you intend on turning into a Sorcerer or Psychic on screen.

==Requirements==
To become a Sorcerer, you need a mentor (PC or NPC) bringing your character into their practice via their teachings.
To become a Psychic, you need a stressful event that unlocks your character's psychic potential.
Please send in a +request voicing this desire.

==Process==
A scene (or set of scenes) gets ran for your Becoming, and at the end of that scene, you get 1 dot of Numina, to be spent on your first Path (your first Psychic Numina dot, or the first level of whatever path your mentor teaches you).

Then, we take you OOC. While highly unlikely, if a +job regarding your Awakening doesn't already exist at this time (for whatever reason), then a +job will be made at this time.

==Backgrounds Available For Immediate Purchase==
When Becoming something supernatural, a player may buy dots of certain Backgrounds immediately, to represent the circumstances of their Becoming. With that XP, you can buy dots of the following Backgrounds for the following costs:

Selection
*Mana: Yes.
*Guide: To be decided.
*Chole To be decided.

Costs
Background Rating	XP Cost
*●●	6 XP
*●●●	12 XP
*●●●●	21 XP
*●●●●●	33 XP

==What We Are Looking For==
[[File:Hobby.jpg|300xpx|thumb]]
Role playing MUSHes will span the gamut between video-gamey hack-n-slashes to an immersive, collaborative storytelling experience. We are looking to create a social community that leans towards the latter, and we seek out creative individuals who enjoy thinking about character motivation and immersing their imagination into a story they are a part of creating.

Role play can be a very time-intensive hobby, but we hope to make this game accessible to players regardless of how much spare time they do or do not have. We do not care about your time commitment, so long as you are able to give people a heads up if you signed up to be somewhere at a certain time/date and cannot attend.

Role play can also result in investing quite a lot of effort, regardless of how much time gets paired with it, like when players orchestrate a carefully crafted plan involving multiple people. We seek out RPers who appreciate the investment of other players in story and character development. We seek out players who are willing to consider how their actions effect others (or are willing to reach out to ask if they find that difficult) on an OOC level.

If that sounds good to you, we hope to have you!

==Complaints And Expectations==
To issue a complaint, send in a +request. Describe the situation and include logs. You may issue a complaint on anybody's behalf, but we must know who the aggrieved person is and we must have proof of what happened in order to act. Be mindful of the following:

*Users that promote hostility based on identity or vulnerability should be reported. Comments, requests, and jokes become harassment the moment they are described as unwelcome and yet persist.

*Users who are asked to stop communicating with another user OOCly, or are asked to stop a specific type of action, must do so. If they refuse or fail to do so, they should be reported.

*All users must respect any and all requests to FTB/FF (Fade To Black/Fast Forward) immediately and without question. Failure to respect a FTB/FF request should be reported.

*The other person being a dickbag is not a valid reason to sink to their level. This goes for staff and players ailke. When you put your foot down with another person, do so with either respect, courtesy or neutrality.

*A character's views and actions are not a moral reflection of the player depicting them. We investigate powerposing, cheating, and metaposing, but we do not investigate moral complaints about IC viewpoints/actions.

When we receive a report, the response depends on the context and details. When a complaint proves valid, the reported player gets a strike. Every 3 strikes, they are dismissed from whatever context causes the problem: e.g. staffing, a chat channel, a character they play, our outright yeetification from the game. We will insta-yeet in extreme cases.

Frenzy is discussed on pages 297-299 of the V20 Core. For Frenzy and drugs, see page 301-302. For ghoul frenzies: 501-502. For resisting and controlling frenzies: 120, 131, 314-315.

The V20 core mentions in the Brujah writeup that a Brujah cannot spend Willpower to avoid Frenzy (see p. 51). Please note that this applies to Frenzy, not Rotschreck.

On that page, it also says a Brujah can spend a point of Willpower to "end" a frenzy that has already begun, but we do not follow that rule: Brujah or not, you can use willpower to specifically ''guide'' a frenzy for that turn, which can include removing oneself from the frenzy-causing situation, but you can't spend willpower to effectively turn your frenzy "off".
